What are the latest regulations on domestic air travel regarding carrying wrapped packages in your luggage?
I really want to wrap all our Christmas gifts before we fly to save time upon arrival at our destination.
Public Comments
- do not include explosive devices
- They will make you unwrap everything. I'm not kidding. I had to unwrap turban, even.
- god helps you!
- if they pass the x-ray screening, you most likely won't have any problems. just make sure there are no blunt instruments, no liquids over 3 ounces, no blades, no explosives, no incindary devices, no bio-hazordous materials, and nothing radioactive. if anything at all looks even remotely suspicious, the TSA people WILL open the wrapping, with no regard to the time and effort you went to to get them wrapped. best bet? roll all your clothing so you can get more in one bag, and put all the gifts in another bag that can be stowed underneath.
- As long as you haven't got anything sus in there, it should be okay, but you should be aware that if security/customs officers want to open your packages they will with no regard as to how much time or effort you spent wrapping those gifts. I would personally just wrap them when you arrived, it saves so many hassles with getting everything checked.
