I live in Canada. Where is the best place to travel in the U.S.A.?
Wondering for future travel plans. Anywhere special I should go?
Public Comments
- anywhere north of the main us border...LOL
- why would you want to go there?? the USA already has plenty of our Canadian $$ - either explore Canada more or goto some place really cool like CUBA, or ENGLAND.... dont let the USA get any richer/more powerful that it is
- If I were you, I'd try the Southwest (Texas, Arizona, New Mexico) and do some canoeing on the Rio Grande and go hiking in the Grand Canyon and visit ranches and the like. The heat must be blistering in the summer so I would go in spring. But Montana is also said to be scenic and it is nearer Canada.
- In my opinion, the Outer Banks of North Carolina are the best. There is a great deal of history there. The Lost Colony, Blackbeard's Museum, Kitty Hawk (site of first flight), not to mention the beautiful coast, the lighthouses, I think there are 5 lighthouses. The one that most people are familiar with is the Hattaras Lighthouse on Hattaras Island. There is also a huge aquarium, Elizabethan Gardens, outdoor drama (The Lost Colony), and many, many others sites. Also, great art gallerys, quaint shops, and other great shopping areas. You can find rental costs in any range you need. There are condos, motels, hotels, big houses for large families or groups and small houses for smaller families, and camping areas. All seasons are great...each season has it's own calling card. Fishing is absolutely wonderful (either deep sea or surf), bird watching is also great. Sightseeing is enough to fill up your week. On Okracoke Island, there are wild ponies to see and museums. The entire Outer Banks is really growing, but still is not so overly populated that it is difficult to get around. It is a real treasure!!!! Hope you decide to visit. Once you do, you will fall in love with it. It is the kind of vacation spot that has something for everyone all year long!
- That is quite an open question. South is you like warm climate, Chicago or New York is you like big city action. East or West Coast for Ocean fun. Happy travels.
- In April the best place to travel is Flagstaff, Arizona to Phoenix, AZ and back. You don't have to go all the way to Phoenix, it is the scenery along the way, exploring off the main highway, etc. At the end of this trip stop at The Grand Canyon. Pack a one gallon bottle of water and four lunches for every two people, register your departure for hiking down on the Blue Angel Trail to the river and back. You must start NLT 7:00am to avoid hiking back in the dark. Carry warm jacket in your backpack, make sure weather will be fair and you have good camera plus two rolls of film or digital equivalent. If you do this after May 15th increase the water by 50%. Don't take klutzes, weak hikers, or moaners on this trip. A strong walking stick and pepper spray useful in rare instance of cougar, but all women group need some better equalizer for all possibilities. Cougars are bodacious with women, teens, children, but tend to leave men alone. Good hiking boots, thick socks avoid blisters, but don't get carried away, many people have done this in gym shoes. Group of four to seven is best, take cell phone. Also visit Royal Gorge, Colorado on the way home. Check out scenic rail journeys there, one called Durango--Silverton, I think. You should Google that ahead of time. In Summertime, skip Arizona and visit Utah. A safe place generally, especially if you are prudent. Visit Brighton, downtown SLC, ask for suggestions, visit National Parks in Southern Utah, Camera absolutely necessary. Google 'tour Utah.' If you come in September there is SPECTACULAR golden yellows and oranges, etc. against green in mountain valleys, like Heber Valley. In winter you can see ice crystallized around all tree branches on drive to ski resorts like Brighton, already mentioned for summer. A collapsible or inflatable boat helps for Grighton (not in winter). If this is too outdoorsy for your taste and you are more interested in cities, visit Chicago in Summer and tour Museum of Science and Industry, and Natural History and all such places. Sm8ithsonian in Washington also good, veery pretty during late April Cherry Blossom time. If you do Washington, also do Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia on the way to Williamsburg. When you get to a place, look up Museums in Yellow Pages so you don't miss the excellent smaller ones in which you have an interest. Travelers Insurance that covers the duration of your trip is a good idea, no universal medical coverage system here. Driving up the western shore of Lake Michigan after leaving Chicago is nice. Lake Forest towards Milwaukee, no rush, be sure to check out things to see with people and museums in Yellow Pages. One for Laser and Holography there I think. Six Flags type of places, Lake Cruises and such, contact friends in Gurnee, IL for help, suggestions. These suggestions focus on the beautiful, resting, interesting and relatively safe. But I think it best to travel in group that includes guys as well as gals. That is always safer, and have a cell phone or two that works here. Generally, you dial 911 for help anywhere. Never have valuables or purchases showing in your car and always lock it up. Are you covered if it disappears? Check it out on computer ahead of time, print roadmaps for your clipboard. Advance planning helps. Arizona magical and wonderful at this time of year... Traveling in USA for girls without equal number of guys is now dangerous in many places. Goes up to very dangerous and keep out altogether for some places. So, I recommend making sure your car is reliably checked out and you have reliable male company.
- chicago, or san diego is the best if you come to chicago, look me up, we can hang out or what ever. but i have to tell you i get lost pretty easily, so we will have to have a map or global positioning stuff.
- Hi, sorry I don't know another way to contact you. I've read your answer for the question "What is the best way to deal with a very hyperactive kid". I like your answer and I have an ADD kid at home. I wonder if the fact that you said "Include an omega 3 supplement high in DHA to help with brain function" is ONLY good for ADHD kids, or is ALSO good for ADD kids ? And what is DHA ?
