What's the best way to travel to at least 2 European countries during 2 weeks?

I live in Germany and travel alone, but want to know places where I can go and get to know other joung people. The countries I want to travel to are France and Italy. I also want to get the most out of this vacation. So anybody who knows any special features about these two, which would make the trip more enjoyable, I'll appreciate the help.

1. If you live in Germany, you can start from Strasbourg, than Paris (at least 3-4 days), the castles of the valley of Loire, than Lyon, Marseille, the French Riviera (Cannes, Nice, Monte Carlo).From here you can easy pass to the nord of Italy, begining with San Remo(very close to Monte Carlo), Genova, Milano, Padova and the last, but not the least Venice.I know that's a lot for two weeks, but you can change as you wish, it was just an answer.
2. Hire a car and drive. 2 weeks is no problem. Europe isn't that big.
