Travel Agency Packages

The cheapest way to book a Thailand resort, abroad/on line or locally/travel agency?

I'm going to Thailand in July and heard that I can get much cheaper resort packages if I wait til I get to Bangkok and check around at local travel agencies. If yes, is there a web site with Bangkok agency phone no's? I have picked a few places on Koh Chang, but am a bit worried that if I wait til I get there, they may be fully booked. All help appreciated. Thanks!

  1. You will like this place in Chiangmai www.meditationthai.org
  2. Why would you go there? Family ? Friends? Definately not a vaccation spot.
  3. Thailand is so fully relaxed and laid back that there is no need to book everything in advance. Just go there and ask for a place. If it's booked solid, leave your group in a local bar for a cold beer while guarding the luggage; and one brave pioneer goes around town to find the best accommodation.
  4. You are correct - BUT - you can book ahead using local on-line agencies for the discounted rates. You will need to book and pay in advanced but the rates will be as good as you can get in Thailand. If you book now - you will have lots to choose from. If you wait til you are there you will have fewer options. I like: Passionasia.com, Asiarooms.com, thailand-hotels.com... but there are loads of similar sites - just do a google search for 'Thailand hotels'. They have hotel guides, special deals etc. You need to pay using credit card - then they will email you a hotel vouchure (print it out and bring it to the hotel when you check in - this is your receipt and proof it is pre-paid). If your plans change you do not get refunds. But if the days change a day or two (but with the same hotel) - you can usually change with the on-line company no problem. I use these services all the time and never had a problem.
  5. July is the low season, so I do not think you will have trouble finding a room. On Koh Chang, try www.alinaresort.com, owned by Dave and his wife Ek. This is a great resort, good pricing, and great beach and access to everything. Service is outstanding as well, with their own convenience store right on the premises. check out the beach photos on www.visualthailand.com under photos/beaches and you will see some recent photos. Koh Chang is a great spot to vacation. July is into the rainy season, so be sure to bring an unbrella as there will be periods of strong and heavy rain. Once in Bangkok to can travel to Koh Chang via Bangkok Airways, around 2400 baht one way, or go to Ekkemei Bus Station and take a government bus for 250 baht. The last ferry to Koh Chang leaves at 6:00 PM so you have to arrive there prior to 6:00 PM or you will not be able to get to the island until the next morning. Have a safe and happy trip
