do you need any special shots/immunizations to travel to costa rica from toronto canada? If so what are they?
If so, are they recommended or required and what are they?

- nope, you don´t need any btw Costa Rica is not a jungle like many people think... NOTE: if you are going to the east coast (Limón) or to the south of Puntarenas you should get a good repellent.
- Depends on what part of the country you're going to...but I'd get on Malaria medication and definitely get a Hepititis-A vaccine. Hep-A is transmitted mostly through food and/or food servers and will kill you if left untreated. I don't know if they have "dengue" there...but I'd see about that also. People from or in most foreign countries have developed a certain level of immunity to these things... Talk to your Doctor and ask for the Traveler Vaccine series, they usually have a list of recommended shots you should get based on where you're going..
- Malaria medication is not needed as there is no Malaria. I do suggest all your Hep shots (A & B) but that is good to have anyway. There has been small outbreaks of Dangue Fever but they are rare and I would not worry about them. Have fun....
